General information

Nazaré has two sides. There's Praia do Norte, where the world's biggest waves arrive every winter—generated by Europe's longest underwater canyon, which amplifies the Atlantic swells to twenty, thirty meters. You don't learn there. You observe. And then there's the town's main beach, with regular waves, suitable for all levels, 365 days a year. This is where Nazaré Surf School operates, the only one with a physical structure directly on the sand: separate changing rooms, hot showers, equipment storage, safety deposit boxes. The instructors were born in Nazaré, many come from the local competitive scene or have worked as lifeguards on this very stretch of sea. They teach in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. Praia do Norte is just a few minutes' walk away. In winter, during the big waves, you can hear the roar from the village. The school doesn't organize spectacular tours or all-inclusive packages; it does one thing and does it well.
